Pedestrians
Typically, school crossing surveys involve the recording of pedestrians categorised into (at least) "child" and "adult" and often children are then further classified into the categories of "primary school" and "secondary school". The number of prams/pushers can also be surveyed.
Vehicles
When undertaking surveys for a proposed school crossing, vehicle volumes will normally be required, and this survey can be undertaken either manually or using data loggers. The benefit of using a data logger (over a manual surveyor) is that vehicle speed data can be captured simultaneously.
Audits
Austraffic has undertaken numerous audits of school crossings, including: signage, parking, pavement line lengths and road condition.
