In 2007 Austraffic undertook a cyclist speed survey in the Melbourne CBD for the Herald Sun newspaper, which found that fewer than 3 percent of bike riders along Southbank Promenade obeyed the speed limit signs restricting them to 10km/h.
More than 70 percent were traveling at greater than 15km/h; while 40 percent of bikes checked were traveling at greater than 20km/h.
